Health minister Siddharth Nath Singh, delegation seeking investment for airport, defense corridor projects.
A delegation from the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, headed by a cabinet minister, has arrived in the United States for a five-day visit to woo investors from the country.
Led by Minister for Health Siddharth Nath Singh, the five-member delegation kicked off the visit with a meeting at Medtronics, one of the largest health device companies in the world.
He is scheduled to hold meetings with a number of US companies in several cities over the next five days. They include meetings with officials of defense and aviation giants such as Lockheed Martin, Boeing and Honeywell.
During the visit, the minister will also pitch for investments for two mega projects: the Jewar International Airport in Greater Noida and the Defence Corridor in Bundelkhand. These two are two of the pet projects of the Yogi Athityanath government.
A key member of the delegation is Infrastructure and Industrial Development Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey, who will meet with US business leaders in San Francisco, New York, Washington and Stanford.
“Back to back meetings have been firmed up with top officials of global companies, US government officials and the diaspora,” Singh said from San Francisco, according to The Times of India. “My tour will start with a visit to Medtronic – one of the largest health companies in the world.”
“The company has evinced keen interest in establishing cath labs in every district hospital of the state. Meetings will also be held with officials of ride-hailer UBER, which is so far serving commuters only in Lucknow and want to expand to tier-2 cities in the state,” Singh told from San Francisco.
The San Francisco leg of the visit will be mostly related to health and information technology. However, Singh said officials of Mastercard and Visa are also likely to meet him.
On Tuesday, Singh will visit Stanford University and deliver a lecture on the vast potential of Uttar Pradesh in several fields. He will also meet the UP diaspora in New York on May 5 before returning to India.
