Zakir Hussain, Kala Ramnath, Jayanthi Kumaresh to be part of 2020 Triveni Tour starting March 28.
For lovers of Indian classical music, this can be a once in a lifetime opportunity to see three stalwarts of Indian music performing together.
For the very first time in the history of classical Indian stage presentation, three renowned artists — Zakir Hussain, Kala Ramnath, and Jayanthi Kumaresh – will come together as part of 2020 Triveni Tour beginning March 28.
The musical extravaganza will see each of the exponents with their respective instruments—tabla, violin and Saraswati veena performing for the audience.
Each one of the artists is not just an immensely popular musician, but is also a renowned virtuoso collaborator, pathbreaker and educator.
The artists have been advancing the art of their particular instruments to remarkable levels.
Feted and honored in India and abroad with numerous awards, each has successfully toured all over the world with their own acclaimed solo projects.
Their US tour, just like their other individual tours looks promising and a veritable treat to the audience.
The event is called Triveni after the mythical site of the union of three sacred rivers in India, explain the organizers.
The name aptly represents the confluence of the varied musicalities which the three maestros bring to this collaboration.
Those who have an interest in tabla would have followed Zakir Hussain’s iconic career and his groundbreaking work.
He has been creating brilliant musical dialogues between Hindustani (North Indian) and Carnatic (South Indian) music.
With Kala Ramnath, an innovative representative of North Indian raga tradition, Jayanthi Kumaresh, the leading exponent of the ancient South Indian veena, and Zakir Hussain seamlessly stitching North and South Indian rhythm traditions to provide a bridge for veena and violin to meet, Triveni promises to be a fluent, joyous and entirely original musical conversation.
