COVID-19 guidelines now available in Punjabi

Sikh Coalition fact sheet includes information on social distancing, state and federal benefits.

At a time when everyone is busy googling about the signs, symptoms as well as state strategy to deal with the spreading coronavirus, Sikh coalition has prepared guidelines on the pandemic in Punjabi.

The guidelines on COVID-19 prepared by the minority civil rights organization are aimed at Sikh Americans as well as others hailing from India’s Punjab state.

For about 500,000 Sikhs living in America, particularly those in the elderly age group, who are fluent in their native language, Punjabi, this resource was of extreme necessity in the current times.

The guidelines cover all important aspects of the ongoing Coronavirus crisis beginning with social distancing which is explained as taking simple steps to reduce close contact between people to contain the epidemic.

People are advised in both Punjabi and Hindi about steps to ensure that they are taking an active part in flattening the curve to slow the spread of COVID-19.

The resource also includes another important but often overlooked aspect of the new stay-at-home guidelines — the possibility of cyberbullying faced by kids as they will be spending more and more time online as schools switch to e-learning.

It offers guidelines for countering cyberbullying on a range of social media platforms and to help your child if they are victims of cyberbullying online.

Travel restrictions is another area which has been attracting a lot of questions and worries. The coalition on its resources page will be providing constant updates on closures and changes with respect to citizen and foreign traveler entry and exit in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.

You can read the latest updates about those policy changes–with particular attention paid to policies in the US States and India both in Punjabi and Hindi.

The information on federal as well as state benefits to help people get through this period of slowdown would also be provided.

The resource informs that in addition to federal relief, all 50 US states have unique policies with regard to unemployment, medicaid, and welfare programs.

The Federal benefit resources page also provide a summary of the bipartisan Families First Coronavirus Response Act signed by President Donald Trump on March 18, which authorizes more than $100 billion worth of aid to address the effects of COVID-19.

The resources in Punjabi can be found at COVID-19 Response and Resources
