Women of color get senior roles in Indian American VP elect’s office.
Vice President-elect Kamala Harris is reported to have chosen Tina Flournoy, who is currently serving as chief of staff to former President Bill Clinton, as her chief of staff.
Flournoy will join at least two other women of color holding senior roles in the Indian American leader’s office, CNN reported citing an unnamed source.
Symone Sanders, a senior adviser to the Biden campaign, will serve as a senior adviser and chief spokesperson for the vice president-elect. Ashley Etienne, another senior adviser on the Biden campaign, will serve as communications director for Harris.
Before her current role with Clinton, Flournoy, a graduate of Georgetown Law, served as assistant to the president for public policy at the American Federation of Teachers.
She has served in several roles in the Democratic Party, including senior adviser to then Democratic National Convention Chairman Howard Dean in 2005.
Meanwhile. President-elect Joe Biden and Harris have moved quickly to name a diverse group to key White House and Cabinet posts.
To date, Biden-Harris team has named five Indian Americans to important positions including Maju Varghese, as the executive director of their inauguration committee.
Earlier on Monday, Biden had formally announced the appointment of Neera Tanden as the Director of the Office of Management and Budget.
Former Surgeon General Vivek Murthy appointed co-chair of Biden’s covid-19 task force last month. The task force includes two others, Atul Gawande and Celine Gounder.
Two Indian Americans were named to head the committees in charge of transition to the new administration – Arun Majumdar for the Department of Energy and Kiran Ahuja for the Office of Personnel Management.
In addition, 20 Indian-Americans were appointed to the transition’s agency review teams.

The gynarchy has started if she gets in. Biden won’t last very long and Harris will take over. Then we will see her choosing women for her cabinet and one day the country will be run by females. In a way that might not be bad since we have seen what the men can do!
