Mira, the Royal Detective will also highlight festivals like Eid-ul-Fitr, Dussehra and Teej in the new season, which premieres on April 5.
When Disney Junior’s kids animated series, Mira, the Royal Detective, began streaming it was an answer to many parents hoping for an India-inspired series for their children growing up in the United States.
After a successful debut, the series is now back with its second season, which is set to premiere on April 5 on Disney Junior and Disney NOW. The season is scheduled to run for eight consecutive weeks with a new weekly episode every Monday.
The show follows the story of a cute and feisty young girl, Mira. Set in the fictional city of Jalpur in India, the new series continues to create landmarks for representation on American TV with an all new episode showcasing the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday.
Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated by Muslims in India and around the world.
In the special Eid episode, titled “The Eid Mystery,” Mira’s friend Sadia asks for her help in solving the case when they find a lost holiday Eid gift envelope on the ground.
Recurring cast member Rizwan Manji stars alongside his real-life daughter, Ayana Manji (“Perfect Harmony”) as Mr. Khan and his daughter Sadia. Zehra Fazal (“Glitch Techs”) and Kausar Mohammed (“East of La Brea”) also guest star.
In a positive nod to give due diligence while touching subjects about culture and celebrations, the series took the advice of cultural consulting firm SILA on the episode.
The series will also feature some of the lesser represented festivals from India such as Teej, a sprint festival, and Dussehra in its eight-part series.
The series got attention during its last run for its focus on authentic Indian music, dance, food, fashion, language and art as well as incorporating the diversity of the culture into its storylines. The series voice cast includes Freida Pinto, Kal Penn, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Hannah Simone, Jameela Jamil, Aparna Nancherla and Aasif Mandvi. Leela Ladnier stars as the voice of Mira. Recurring guest stars include some of the popular South Asian origin actors such as Kunal Nayyar, Hari Kondabolu and Aarti Sequeira.
Ritesh Rajan (Disney’s “The Jungle Book”), Lilly Singh (“A Little Late with Lilly Singh“), Aly Mawji (“Silicon Valley”), Tiya Sircar (“The Good Place”), Usman Ally (“Lifeline”) and world-renowned musician Zakir Hussain are among the additional guest voices cast for Season 2.
