Fahadh Faasil wins Best Actor award for North 24 Kaatham.

BANGALORE: The 61st Annual Filmfare Awards (South) for Malayalam films were held recently, honoring the best achievements in Kerala-based cinema over the course of the year 2013.
The film Drishyam walked away with the top prize, claiming Best Film for director Jeethu Joseph. The Best Director trophy, however, went to Shyamaprasad for his work on the film Artist, which also picked up the Best Actress award for Ann Augustine.
Drishyam, which stars Mohan Lal, was a huge critical and commercial success in Kerala at the time of its release last year, and has already been remade for Telugu audiences, too.
Best Actor went to Fahadh Faasil, for his performance in the film North 24 Kaatham. Best Supporting Actor went to Murali Gopy for Left Right Left, while Best Supporting Actress went to Asha Sharath, who featured in Best Film-winner Drishyam.
The Best Music Director prize was given to M. Jayachandran for his compositions on the film Nadan, which also picked up the Best Lyrics award for Madhu Yasudev. Best Male Playback singer was deemed Vijay Yesudas for the song “Thirayum Theeravum” from the film Memories, while Best Female Playback singer was given to Viakkom Vijayalekshmi for the song “Ottaku Padunna” in the film Nadan.
The highly coveted Critics Award went to Malayalee heartthrob Prithviraj, who was awarded for his performance in the film Celluloid. Prithviraj is currently making a slow but steady transition to more commercially viable Bollywood films, and appeared in the Yash Raj Films production Aurangzeb opposite Arjun Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Jayabharathy, the highly celebrated actress who has won two Kerala State Film Awards over the course of her career.
