BANGALORE: South Indian actress Catherine Tresa has been cast in the highly coveted lead role in Dasari Narayana Rao’s new film.
Tresa will portray the lead heroine of the as-yet-untitled film, and will be seen opposite hero Vishnu Manchu in the Telugu-language film. While details regarding plot are being kept quiet, rumors indicate that the film could be a remake of Manjapai, the Tamil hit film starring Vimal, Rajkiran, and Lakshmi Menon, reports The Times of India.
Tresa is originally Malayalee Catholic, but was brought up in Dubai. She has acted in Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada films, with the latter bringing her the most recognition despite being low in count compared to the rest. In 2012, she starred in the Kannada film Godfather, which earned her enormous praise and even a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress-South.
Her star has risen dramatically over the last two years, and she is currently working on a trio of Tamil films that will see release over the ensuing months. One of them is Rudramadevia, in which she will essay the part of Annambika opposite actor Allu Arjun. Another is Kanithan, which will see act opposite fellow rising star Atharvaa, and finally there is Madras, in which she stars with Karthi and is set to hit screens very soon
Her latest release was the Telugu film entitled Paisa, which starred actor Nani and was released in November. The film received average reviews and consequently only earned middling box office receipts
