WASHINGTON, DC: The prime minister of India Narendra Modi continued his hectic schedule as he attended a lunch hosted by Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State John Kerry at the State Department, on Tuesday.
Modi found time too to interact with the Indian American community, as he shook hands with some individuals and waved back at crowd that gathered outside the Indian Embassy, to get a glimpse of him.
Inside the premises of the Indian Embassy, Modi interacted and posed for photographs with the embassy officials and staff and their families, which included Ambassador Jaishankar. Several children were present – having skipped school for a good reason. Modi was accompanied by the External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj.
Modi showed no signs of fatigue from his fasting and abstaining from food since the time he embarked on the trip to the United States. After the hectic trip to New York and the United nations, where he had dozens of separate meetings with officials and delegations, Modi continued to mingle and make new friends and forge partnerships in Washington.
On Tuesday, he met the Governor of Maryland Michael O’Malley, who came to greet the premier. Swaraj was present too at the meeting. In New York, Modi had met the Governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie, and the Governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley.
A joint statement is expected to be released by the White House later today on the meeting Modi had with the president of the United States Barack Obama.
