A few jhatkas, but nothing an exorcism can’t handle.

NEW DELHI: The trailer of the Bhushan Patel directed horror film ‘Alone’ starring Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover has received tremendous response on YouTube, having been viewed more than three million times.
However, the trailer itself is not exciting, except for a few genuine jhatkas from close camera shots. The plot of the film seemingly centers around conjoined twins Anjana and Sanjana, played by Basu. It’s apparent from the trailer that the twins were surgically separated at an early age, and only one of them survived.
Years later, when the surviving twin comes back to her childhood home, with her lover/husband (played by Grover), the horror begins to unfold, with apparently the spirit of the twin who tragically died in the surgery out to get some much awaited revenge.
The trailer shows some of the horror sequences experienced by the grown-up Basu: twin sets of footprints in sand on the beach, apparitions in room, mangled, bloodied leg dangling from the ceiling as she sleeps with Grover by her side.
The problem is that these are the staples of most clichéd horror films, and to actually see it all in a trailer, seems like a waste of time to go watch the film, when it releases on January 16. A poor choice to add in the trailer is also to include a crucial end part of the film, with a malevolent spirit being shown tamed by an exorcism of sorts. So, there, we know the ending too, and how it all will work out alright for Basu and Grover, who will survive.
The Bhushan Patel film is almost certainly a remake of the 2007 Thai film ‘Alone’, directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun and Parkpoom Wongpoom. That film had starred Thai-German pop singer Marsha Wattanapanich. The plot of the film was loosely based on Agatha Christie’s book, ‘Elephants Can Remember.’
The success of Basu’s ‘Alone’ will depend a lot on the music, which is yet to be released. A few popular numbers by the team of Mithoon, Ankit Tiwri and Jeet Ganguly, which is expected to be released soon, may do wonders for the film’s fortunes.
One big plus of the film as seen in the trailer: some bold and sexy scenes between Basu and Grover, with some stripping and love making scenes in the bedroom, may prove to be a big hit with the audiences, especially for fans of Basu.
