BENGALURU: The Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has made its latest smartphone model Mi4 16GB/64GB available through open sale for buyers in India via Flipkart.
Now, buyers who wish to purchase Mi4 can visit Mi page on Flipkart and add the product to the cart without having to pre-register or waiting for the “Buy” button to appear on a stipulated time. Earlier, during the flash sales, the out-of-stock board appeared on the product page just after a few minutes. This justifies some of the earlier media reports about ‘foul’ play to create hype around newly launched devices.
However, the company’s Redmi Note, which is an older version of the Xiaomi device in the budget segment, still follows the flash sale model.
Earlier, Xiaomi had put its first tablet, Mi Pad, for open sale on March 24. The company claimed that the entire Mi Pad stock sold out within a few hours.
A message from the company read, “Even better news for your Sunday! We’re glad to announce that our next batch of Mi Pads is back in stock, and we’ll be opening up for sale on Flipkart tomorrow 30 Mar at 12 noon (while stocks last).”
Unlike Mi4, which is a mid-range smartphone priced Rs. 19,999, the Mi Pad is much cheaper at Rs. 12,900. Mi Pad is a feature rich tablet powered by 32-bit by a ‘4+1′-core Nvidia Tegra K1 SoC ARM Cortex-A15 processor with a clock speed of 2.2Gzh that is found on Nexus 9 which costs almost double the price of Xiaomi’s tablet. The device also has an excellent 7.9-inch display with a resolution of 2048×1536 pixels. The device is powered by a long-lasting 6700Mah battery that boasts of a backup time of 11 hours while watching videos, 86 hours of music and around 17 hours of continuous reading.
The device is also facilitated with a rear and selfie camera of 8MP and 5MP, respectively. Unfortunately, the rear camera lacks a LED flash which is common in tablets. But still the 2GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage capacity of the device makes it a beast among tablets that are currently available in India. Adding to these Xiaomi is also offering an expandable storage of 128 GB, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity and above all it runs on the MiUI 6 on top of Android KitKat.
On the other hand Xiaomi Mi4 is 5-inch full HD smartphone powered with a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor coupled with 3GB RAM. The phone features a 13 MP camera like Mi3 with HD recording and an upgraded front camera with 8 MP for taking selfies and video conferencing.
The device is backed by a 3080 mAh battery that can last for more than a day. The Mi4 features a metal chassis with a removable back panel made out of plastic. The device is compact and lighter than Mi3, and runs on MIUI 6 on top of Android KitKat.
