BENGALURU: South Indian film sensation Raai Laxmi is moving up the ladder to the Bollywood industry by making her debut in A R Murugadoss’s thriller film ‘Akira’, which is a remake of 2011 Tamil movie ‘Mounaguru’.
Laxmi, who has proved her talent in the south, has finished the first schedule of her shooting which had filmmaker Anurag Kashyap acting opposite her. Anurag is making his debut as an actor in the movie, playing the role of the antagonist.
Laxmi was quoted by the Times of India saying, “I am doing this film essentially because it is helmed by Murugadoss Sir. Some established names are involved with the project.”
Laxmi started her acting career at the age of 15 and has more than 50 films to her credit, that too in different south Indian languages such as Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada.
Laxmi added “This film’s a great debut for me. Even as I will be seen in a special appearance, I’ve an important part to play in the plot. I’m not there just to add glamour. I have always wanted to move to Bollywood and I’m really excited that I bagged this film.”
Unlike romantic and family oriented roles that she did in the south, the debut Bollywood role demands a dominating and bold character from Laxmi. Hopefully we could see another actress from the south rising to the limelight in Bollywood. Earlier, Murugadoss had introduced South Indian actress Asin Thottumkal to Bollywood industry through his remake movie Ghajini.
