WASHINGTON, DC: Indian American journalist and anchor Vinita Nair was part of the team that was awarded the James Beard Broadcast Media Award for Best Television Segment for “CBS This Morning’s The Dish.”
According to its website, the James Beard Foundation’s mission is to celebrate, nurture, and honor America’s diverse culinary heritage through programs that educate and inspire. The awards, which have been presented annually for 25 years, cover categories including culinary books, broadcast media, journalism, restaurant design, chefs, and humanitarians.
Along with co-host Anthony Mason and producers Brian Applegate, Greg Mirman, and Marci Waldman, Nair beat out competition from “The Hungry Hound,” aired by ABC 7 Chicago, and “WCCO This Morning’s DeRusha Eats.”
Aside from co-hosting “CBS This Morning: Saturday,” Nair also serves as a CBS News correspondent. She joined the network in January of 2013.
Prior to working with CBS, Nair co-anchored ABC’s “World News Now” and “America This Morning,” and was also a contributor to “Good Morning America.” She originally joined ABC News as an anchor and correspondent for “ABC News Now.”
A native of Colleyville, Texas, Nair graduated from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and currently resides in New York City.
She joins a growing contingent of Indian American women in broadcast journalism who are making a name for themselves.
As televised news diversifies, personalities such as Reena Ninan (anchor on ABC’s “World News Now” and “America This Morning”), Uma Devi Pemmaraju (anchor on America’s News Headquarters for Fox News), and Shibani Sona Joshi (reporter for the Fox Business Network) are quickly becoming household names.
