BENGALURU: OnePlus One users in India who were earlier denied Cyanogen OS update due to a patent issue raised by Micromax will now receive updates without delay.
OnePlus finally came to a truce with the Indian manufacturer and will be able to roll out regular Cyanogen OS Update as promised during the launch of its maiden smartphone in India.
OnePlus and Micromax Informatics came to a mutual consent after six months of stand-off which first saw the Delhi high court favoring the Indian smartphone maker. According to a blog post that appeared in the official website of OnePlus the fans of its first smartphone model, OnePlus One, will receive regular updates as the legal proceedings have been resolved and the cases withdrawn.
According to Vikas Agarwal, general manager of OnePlus India, “One Plus remains vindicated of the recent trials and tribulations that has surrounded the company due to legal tussle with Micromax over exclusivity on CyanogenOS.”
Earlier, Delhi government had banned OnePlus from importing, marketing and selling Cyanogen powered OnePlus One smartphone in India citing that Micromax had acquired license from Cyanogen to sell smartphones powered by the custom Android OS.
In the injunction suit filed by Micromax, it had stated that OnePlus infringed its exclusive rights acquired through “ambient services and application distributions agreement” from Cyanogen
Cyanogen put OnePlus once again on the defence and told the court that it had given exclusive right to Micromax subsidiary Yu Televentures to integrate and distribute its technology, this, when the company had already signed an agreement with OnePlus in February 2014, way before Yu Televentures started its operations.
But, unfortunate for OnePlus, just a fortnight before launching Yu Yureka in India, Cyanogen terminated its agreement and asked OnePlus to stop using its brand.
OnePlus, however, launched its smartphone in India and this prompted Micromax to take legal course. The case was active in the court till recently and now both companies seem to have resolved their differences.
