Chopra to cut down on Bollywood films for the shoot.By Raif Karerat
WASHINGTON, DC: While the first season of the new Priyanka Chopra vehicle “Quantico” has yet to hit the air, the Bollywood actress has confirmed she will be returning for the U.S. show’s second season.
In an interview with the Times Of Oman, Chopra said, “I am going to be part of the second season of ‘Quantico,’ so that keeps me packed the next year, I would probably do two to three movies next year.”
The series centers on a group of young FBI recruits, all with specific reasons for joining, who make their way through training at the Quantico base in Virginia. As the drama intercuts between their pasts and their training, it also flashes forward to the near future, where one of the recruits will turn out to be a sleeper terrorist responsible for the most devastating terrorist attack on U.S. soil since 9/11, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
“It’s very scary, because I don’t know if the world is ready for an Indian protagonist, Chopra stated during an interview with DNA India. “When I did NFL, and ‘In My City’ was picked for NFL, it was the opening song after Faith Hill. Several racist comments came my way, that I am an Arab terrorist on social media and the NFL network … Because I was brown, they figured I’m Arab, and people were like, ‘How can you have her headlining an American event? Why is she in an all-American sport?’ So, I don’t know how people will react especially since I’m playing an American from India,” she remarked.
Chopra, whose “Quantico” character is named Alex, is joined on set by Yasmine Al Massri as hijab-wearing Nimah, Dougray Scott as Liam, Jake McLaughlin as Alex’s love interest — Ryan, Aunjanue Ellis as Miranda, Johanna Braddy as Shelby, Tate Ellington as Simon, and Graham Rogers as Caleb.
Despite making her first foray into American television, Chopra has maintained a rigorous schedule of film shoots in India while simultaneously shooting “Quantico” for ABC.
In an interview with GlamSham, Chopra said she is getting a little tired but says that mentally she is ready to go.
“I remember when I was growing up, I didn’t see anyone who looked like me in global pop culture,” Chopra said. “In today’s time, Rihanna is from the Islands, David Guetta is from Sweden — today’s pop culture reflects global diversity and I want to be part of that,” she emphasized during her interview with DNA India.
