The two renowned musicians will perform several shows during their Hazir USA Tour 2015. Tour includes Washington, DC, (September 4), Detroit (September 11) and Dallas (September 13).
The duo is well known both in the US and India for their enthralling performances. Hussain was awarded Padma Shri in 1988. Hariharan, who has made an indelible mark as a playback singer in Bollywood, was awarded Padma Shri in 2004.
Husain and Hariharan are performing together after 20 years.
Hazir USA Tour’s Washington, DC, leg is organized by Greater Washington Area Physicians of Indian Origin (GWAPI).
GWAPI is headed by Dr. Manbir Takhar, who has been involved in several charitable and medical activities in the Washington, DC area. The organization also organized an event to raise money for Nepal earthquake victims.
Talking to The American Bazaar, GWAPI’s President-Elect Dr. Rajeev Khanna said, “We want to raise awareness among the population that we are here to help not only our community. General community of the local Northern Virginia, Maryland and DC area has been good to us and we are trying to give it back in form of free clinics and health care.”
The proceeds from ticket sales from this upcoming event will go to fund two scholarships for deserving high school students who want to study medicine. These scholarships will be open to children of DC-Metropolitan area residents. GWAPI will also organize free medical clinics from the proceeds.
“Our audience will have an experience of their lives, with two legends performing together for the first time after 20 years,” said Manish Sood, a national promoter of the tour. “It’s priceless.”
The tickets range from $50 – $250. There is a 10 percent discount for George Washington students and faculty.
Tickets for the live concert are available online.
