Just days after winning the national award for best actress, the ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ star Kangana Renaut has stepped into a puddle of legal troubles.
The Mumbai Police’s cybercrime police station in Bandra Kurla Complex has summoned the actress and her sister Rangoli based on an FIR filed by Bollywood-macho Hrithik Roshan who alleged that an imposter has been sending emails to his female fans through a fake id.
The actor had earlier said that his female fans received incessant emails from id hroshan@email.com and filed a case with cybercrime under various sections of Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act.
There are also reports that the cybercrime has requested the help of a US court to helping it in retrieving the details of the fake email id and the location of the user while sending out emails.
Both Kangana had Rangoli has been asked by the Mumbai police to appear before it within a week to record their statements.
The incident leading to the event started back in 2014 when Kangana during the birthday party of Karan Johar thanked the Krish-actor for praising her role in Queen. But the actor told Kangana that he has not interacted with her over emails and that the emails that she received were from the fake account. In the FIR Hrithik alleges that after coming to know the email id, Kangana spammed him with emails.
Kangana during a talk show said that she was in a silly relationship with Hrithik, which provoked the actor. An angry Hrithik demanded an immediate apology from the actress and warned the actress that he would make public some emails that contain provocative and nude pictures and clips.
Kangana reacted to this by sending a legal notice to the actor which says: “My client (Kangana) states that it was Hrithik who wanted to communicate from a newly created ID because of his impending divorce. In an effort to safeguard his name, image and reputation your client (Hrithik) time and again malafidely and in mischief hacked my client’s email ID and deleted all the mails sent by him.”
The notice also says “If he circulates her emails, images and/or other material which your client willingly received in good faith from my client then upon such circumstances it shall be rightfully deemed that your client is wilfully seeking to not only defame her and issue unwarranted threats. These actions shall be taken “extremely seriously.” She will then have no option but to file criminal proceedings against your client, at his risk, costs and consequences.”
Hrithik’s initial reaction to this came in the form of a public letter in which he wrote: “Anything private that becomes public gives rise to speculation and unnecessary controversies simply because the general public are not privy to the whole truth. Out of respect for everyone involved, I followed the legal path to resolve the matter in question so as to keep it private. It was a breach of ethics to reveal the contents of a private legal notice. Dignified silence is dignified up to a point, but there comes a time when the silence needs to be broken to protect one’s name, family and image.”
“It is a well-known fact that many a times young girls and boys send their provocative and/or nude pictures and film clips to film personalities in vain hope that it could bring them some work. I am given to understand (sic) that a young girl (now named as Kangana) has sent a lot of such photographs and film clips on the email address hroshan@email.com, thinking that she is sending it to me,” Hrithik wore in the letter.
