Two Bangladeshi American brothers were charged Friday in California with murdering their parents, who were found shot to death in their San Jose home.
Hasib Golamrabbi, 22, and his younger brother, 17-year-old Omar Golamrabbi, were being held in Santa Clara County jail without bail Friday, awaiting an afternoon court arraignment, reported the San Francisco Chronicle. The younger brother was charged as an adult, said Sean Webby, spokesman for the district attorney’s office.
Shamima Rabbi, 57, and her 59-year-old husband, Golam Rabbi, were found dead Sunday in their home at 3006 Lucas Ct. in San Jose’s Evergreen neighborhood. Authorities have not discussed a possible motive.
The brothers were arrested Wednesday night. In a jailhouse interview with The Chronicle on Thursday, Hasib Golamrabbi said the true story would come out in legal proceedings.
“I want everyone to know what happened,” he said, “but I can’t say anything without a lawyer.”
He was insistent that his younger brother had nothing to do with the killings.
“No, and that’s all I can say,” he said. “He’s innocent.”
The victims had emigrated to the United States from Bangladesh three decades ago. The arrest of the two sons shocked neighbors and family friends, who said there were no outward signs of tension within the Rabbi family, the Chronicle report added.
