Megastar Chiranjeevi is all set to return to the silver screen after being away for nearly a decade.
Chiranjeevi’s 150th film, which is tentatively titled Kathilantodu is the official remake of Tamil Super hit Kaththi, and it essentially deals with the issues of plaguing farmers.
Chiranjeevi, who once ruled the Telugu Industry, was last seen as a hero in 2007 movie Shankar Dada Zindabad which is a remake of blockbuster Bollywood film Lage Raho Munna Bhai. In 2008 he entered politics with the creation of his own regional party Praja Rajyam.
After faring badly in the 2009 elections, Chiranjeevi merged his party with the Congress in February 2011. He became a Rajya Sabha member and in October 2012 he took his oath as a minister in the cabinet of then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The film, which will be jointly produced by Lyca Productions and Ram Charan, will be directed by VV Vinayak. Popular music director Devi Sri Prasad is composing music for the film.
The makers are yet to finalise the leading lady and rest of the cast but began shooting on Thursday in Hyderabad.
“Top actors and technicians are roped for this film and we will release the first look teaser very soon” VV Vinayak told to the media.
“I am very happy that I have got this opportunity to work with megastar Chiranjeevi once again after ‘Tagore’. As this is his 150th film, we are leaving no stone unturned to make sure this film meets the fan’s expectations. The film will have all the ingredients that will appeal to the fans,” he added.
Earlier, Puri Jagannadh was announced that the director for Chiranjeevi’s comeback project but the megastar was unsatisfied with the script and unceremoniously shunted the director out of the project.
