John Kerry is in India for the Indo-US strategic and commercial dialogue.
US Secretary of State John Kerry, who is in India for the Indo-US strategic and commercial dialogue, is literally under the clouds. As soon as Kerry landed in the Indian Capital, the senior official got a feel of the monsoon plight of Delhi’s common man.
Kerry got a taste of Delhi’s monsoon traffic jam in the beginning of his journey on Monday when his convoy took two hours to reach the hotel form airport. On Wednesday he again got stuck in a heavy downpour and reached his destination late by more than two hours.
Scheduled to address the students at IIT-Delhi, Kerry jokingly asked the students whether they arrived on boats.
“You guys deserve an award for being here today. I don’t know if you came in boats or amphibious vehicles… I salute you for being here and thank you very very much,” he said.
Reports say that, Kerry’s motorcade was stuck near the Teen Murti crossing as the Shanipath –Teen Murti roundabout was waterlogged. Vehicular traffic had to be stopped on all other roads for almost half-an-hour so that the cavalcade could pass.
Reports further adds that the delay due to heavy showers has caused him to cancel his plans of visiting Old Delhi, where he was schedule to visit Jama Masjid and other religious places.
Kerry, who addressed students in IIT-Delhi, talked about the cooperation between India and US and how to ensure “our bilateral relationship” will be prepared to confront the “dangers we face”. He also spoke of a “rising India” that is poised to play a critical role in resolving challenges posed by poverty, terrorism and unsustainable growth among other issues.
