“Capital Connect” flight from Delhi-Washington.
The airline fare of people traveling from India to the US and vice versa is expected to decrease in the coming months as the national air carrier Air India, which is the only Indian carrier that provides direct flights to North America, is planning to fly more flights to North America.
Air India announced that it is all set launch flights on routes like Delhi-Birmingham-Toronto and a direct flight connecting Delhi-Washington under the category “Capital Connect”.
“We are looking at some cities in the US for adding to our network. This expansion will be done with our existing aircraft and the flights will be operated by sweating the assets more. We are in talks with US airports which have traffic demand to and from India. Whichever airports gives us the best deal, we will opt for that. That could be Washington or any other city there,” Times of India quoted a senior AI official.
Air India already has nonstop flights from Delhi to New York, Newark, Chicago and San Francisco. The Mumbai-based Jet Airways goes only to one North American city, Toronto, via Amsterdam. Gulf carriers such as Qatar Airway also own a large share of the India-North America traffic.
Reports say that the expansion of services in this route will also affect the ticket price and the rates may fall soon.
