Victim was made to believe having sex with Shah would help her own marriage.
Syed Shah, a 30-year-old spiritual healer from Birmingham, England, was sentenced to 12-years in jail by Birmingham Crown Court for sexually exploiting a married woman after making her believe that he could solve all her marital problems.
The Sun reported that Shah tricked a 28-year-old woman to have sex with him for solving all her marriage problems. Shah also made her pay him $7,499 for his service.
Judge Patrick Thomas QC also ordered Shah to pay a compensation of $12,500 to the victim who is the mother of a young son. Shah will be registered as a sexual offender for life. The quantum of punishment was decided by the judge after hearing that he had sexually assaulted another woman while performing a healing ritual.
His latest victim, who had been married for three years, was looking for a solution to difficulties in her marriage when one of her friends introduced her to Shah, who promised to help her in June last year. As part of the ritual, Shah sacrificed a goat and asked her to perform some daily readings.
Later, the woman was forced to have sex with him when she complained of not having any result in spite of performing the rituals for pretty long time. Apart from having sex with him twice, the woman paid him $7499. But, she started feeling guilty of cheating on her husband. It was then she saw a news report saying Shah was a sexual offender and was jailed for two years previously for assaulting a woman in the guise of rituals.
The victim then contacted the police leading to Shah’s arrest. During the hearing, Shah denied the claim that he was a spiritual healer and said that neither did he have sex with the woman nor did he accept money from her. Instead, he alleged that the woman had asked him to kill her mother-in-law.
“This was a vile set of offenses,” Judge told Shah. “You abused the high reputation that your family name gave you within the community in order to have your will with a perfectly decent and respectable young woman who had the misfortune to be vulnerable because of her personal circumstances.”
