Narcotics Control Bureau has registered 28 cases in Delhi alone.
Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) sleuths have taken into custody a 26-year-old woman who allegedly couriered forbidden goods to Canada.
According to the NCB officials, the woman was taken into custody after the sleuths intercepted two courier packages booked using fake IDs and addresses that reportedly contained opium.
The officials have identified the arrested woman as Debolina S an MBA Graduate from south Delhi. According to the officials, the courier packages contained 4.5 Kg opium.
The woman has been charged under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act after she was arrested on Tuesday, said Madho Singh, Zonal Director (Delhi) of the Narcotics Control Bureau.
In the raid conducted at the flat of the woman, police have reportedly seized a few items and two of her suspected associates are under the police radar.
According to the annual report of the NCB, most of the trafficking from India are done in the form of courier parcels and the majority of parcels go to Asian countries like Malaysia, mostly containing cocaine and hashish.
According to the 2015 stats, the Narcotics Control Bureau has registered 28 cases in Delhi alone against people who sent couriers containing Charas, Heroin, Cocaine, Cannabis and Methaqualone Amphetamine. Most of these consignments were mailed through private courier companies and the Indian Postal Service.
