Indian American Shah (D) has held various positions in the state and national politics.
Maryland Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Matthews appointed Indian American Devang Shah as the Maryland Democratic Party Asian American and Pacific Islander Chair, on June 6. Shah has been appointed for two years.
The Washington, DC,-area based immigration attorney, Shah has held several posts within the Democratic Party.
“I look forward to mobilizing the AAPI community to shape the future of Maryland,” Shah told the American Bazaar. “The AAPI vote [will] very well be the margin of difference in next year’s Governor’s race.”
The Maryland Democrats are trying to revamp their efforts to prepare for the gubernatorial post, which is currently held by the Republican Governor Larry Hogan. The elections are due next year.
“The vast majority of AAPI community vote[s] for Democrats. However we must register and mobilize the AAPI community to vote in greater numbers to take back the Governor’s House,” Shah told The Bazaar.
A partner at the Shah and Kishore Law Firm in Rockville, Maryland, Shah has served as the Immigration Chair of the Montgomery County Bar Association. He is a frequent speaker and expert on issues surrounding immigration. He was awarded the Chair of the Year accolades for two consecutive years, in 2002 and 2003, during his stint at the bar association of the Montgomery County.
Shah completed his Juris Doctorate from the American University; and, thereupon, obtained his Master in Law degrees from the Georgetown University Law School. He holds memberships of the Bar in Maryland and Washington, DC.
