Marora, a small village in Nuh district, was named as Trump Sulabh village on Friday
Just three days after an NGO Sulabh International Social Service Organization has renamed Haryana’s Marora village after US President Donald Trump, all banners mentioning the new name were removed on Tuesday as per the directions of the district administration.
Nuh Deputy Commissioner Mani Ram Sharma called the NGO representative to his office on Sunday and asked her to bring down all banners, The Hindu reported.
Marora, a small village in Nuh district, was named as Trump Sulabh village on Friday by Sulabh International to highlight their project to turn the village open-defecation free and give it complete toilet coverage.
“It was all fictitious and a fraud event by the organizers aimed at collecting money across the country and abroad,” IANS quoted M R Sharma, deputy commissioner of Mewat. “Organizers neither took any permission from local authorities or the Haryana and Union government nor have they applied for changing the name of the village. It was all illegal.”
According to a Times of India report, the village has 165 families and only 20 out them have toilets. Residents of the village, most of them are Muslims belong to below poverty line, expect that the new name will bring development to the village and were not bothered about Trump’s views on Muslims.
Sulabh founder and Chief Bindeshwar Pathak first announced his plan to name an Indian village after President Trump at a community event in Washington last month. They claimed that the event was held with the gram panchayat’s approval and ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s US visit.
