The 21-year-old center plays for the Texas Legends, a G-League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks.
Indian basketball player Satnam Singh Bhamara will play in the 2017 NBA Las Vegas Summer League Tournament, the Punjab-born player said via twitter on Friday.
“I am excited to announce I will be playing for the #DallasMavericks summer league team in Las Vegas! @nbagleague,” he tweeted to his nearly 15,000 followers.
The 2017 Vegas Summer League, which starts today at the Cox Pavilion and the Thomas and Mack Center in the city, will feature 24 teams and have 67 games.
The final will be on July 17.
Dallas plays its first game against Chicago on Saturday at Mack Center.
The League provides as an excellent opportunity for the 21-year-old to develop and showcase his skills.
Among those Singh is likely to share the court with include this year’s first round draft pick Dennis Smith Jr, and last year’s breakout talent Yogi Ferrell. Both are expected to be on the Las Vegas summer roster, alongside Singh.
The 7 ’2 center was selected by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2nd round of the 2015 NBA Draft, as the 52nd pick. He was the first Indian-born player to be selected in the draft and second player of Indian descent, after the Indo-Canadian Sim Bhullar, who was drafted by the Sacramento Kings. Singh’s selection made him the first player since 2005 to enter the draft without playing in college, overseas professionally, or in the NBA Development League.
Singh appeared in 9 games with the Texas Legends, the G-League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks, and averaged 1.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in 8 minutes of playing time.
Although ineligible for academic scholarships to play in the NCAA, Singh had garnered interest from many schools, including UMass, Pittsburgh, Purdue and USC.
