It is just matter of time before Facebook users from India will outnumber that in the US. A report on Friday announced that India has become the largest base of Facebook users, but the social giant was quick to deny it.
The report that appeared on website TheNextWeb soon became viral with many websites following the queue. The report suggested that India now has 241 million active Facebook users, beating the US, which has 214 million active users.

“India has 201 million active users and retains the second place after the US,” a Facebook spokesperson told IANS on Friday.
Facebook, earlier this year, had announced that it has two billion monthly users across the world.
The report also said that “active users in India are up 27 percent in the past six months alone,” which was a 50 million increase in contrast to a 12 per cent growth in the US.
Adding to the increase in the user base, while announcing the fourth quarterly result and 2016 overall result, Facebook reported a steady growth in revenue.
Facebook reported $8.8 billion in revenue, $3.56 billion in profit and an increased 1.23 billion people who were using the social network every day and that 1.15 billion log in from mobile devices each day.
