As global travel comes to a halt with the COVID-19 pandemic gripping the world, a lot of Indians living and working in the US may be facing extraordinary personal or immigration related issues.
In view of Indian government’s guidelines about travel to India and suspension of all visas till April 15, many are having to reschedule their plans.
While any voluntary travels are being cancelled or postponed by people to stay safe, many others are worried about unavoidable situations.

Many immigration forums are inundated with queries from people facing issues such as expiring US visas, denials of H-1B visas and Indian citizens with minor children who are US citizens having to travel back due to compelling reasons.
Keeping in mind, these grave situations and in an attempt to help people during these unusual times, the Indian Consulate in New York has launched COVID-19 travel helpline.
Those who may be facing any immigration related issues or are challenged with a need to travel during these extraordinary times are advised to reach out to their respective embassies.

The Consulate General of India in New York posted this message on its website:
“In view of travel advisory issued by Government of India regarding travel to India due to global COVID-19 pandemic, following phone numbers may be used to reach Consulate General of India, New York for any assistance/clarification:
(i) PRAMIT Helpline Number: +1-347-721-9243 (Voicemail 24×7, please leave a message and we will call back.)
(ii) COVID-19 (Direct) Helpline Number: +1-212-774-0607 (available from 8:00am to 10:00pm EST)
