BANGALORE: Madhuri Dixit, one of Bollywood’s most loved and respected heroine of all times, has now become the UNICEF celebrity advocate for child rights.
The ageless beauty has been supporting UNICEF in the area of child rights over the last one year. She has done some public service announcements which included messages on prevention of child labor and human trafficking. The PSAs have been used for communication all across India and with a face like Madhuri’s – a face known by and doted upon by the entire nation – the messages have reached every level of society in the country.
This is not the first time UNICEF has joined hands with a celebrity.UNICEF has collaborated with world renowned figures from sports, music, movies and the performing arts. In 2010, UNICEF had announced Priyanka Chopra as National Ambassador promoting child rights and adolescence. She would go on to join Amitabh Bachchan and Sharmila Tagore in supporting UNICEF’s work for children in India and around the world.
As a UNICEF supporter, Madhuri has shown a lot of dedication and enthusiasm in communicating to the general folk the importance of child rights and the vision and ethics that guide UNICEF’s work for children. Over the years, Madhuri has garnered a name not just as an excellent actress and dancer but also for her great humanitarian works.
As part of her duties, Madhuri will be visiting UNICEF supported programs all over the country, speaking for the UNICEF, advocating on their behalf, meeting with high end government officials and seeking their participation in fundraising and advocacy events.
Madhuri’s first field trip for the UNICEF will begin on June 26.
