MUMBAI: Anurag Basu, director of box office successes like, Life in a metro, who shares a good rapport with the star of his recent hit Barfi, Ranbir Kapoor, says he just might not cast his Kapoor friend in his upcoming Kishore Kumar biopic.
The director released his statement on twitter regarding the matter amidst reports that he had signed his fourth project with Ranbir. Blaming a fake Facebook account for the false news, the Murder hitmaker told PTI in an interview,
“Ranbir and I share a great rapport. We connect as an actor and director. After ‘Barfi!’, we are doing ‘Jagga Jasoos’ whose rigorous shoot we will start from November,” he said.
“Then there is Kishore Kumar biopic, which will go on floors soon after ‘Jagga Jasoos’ is finished. I am yet unsure about my untitled project because Ranbir has other films as well. Even I cannot wait for him every time. I might have to take some other actor for it,” Basu added.
“People often complain that after ‘Barfi!’ I have not made anything in these two years. But I must tell you that have worked hard a lot during the early days of my career.”
The director started his career with television serials and made his way to Bollywood after a slow upward climb. Basu first directed television serial Tara (1993), Koshish Ek Aasha (1997) and Miit (2002), which was based on Rabindranath Tagore’s novel Noukadubi.
He made his debut in movies with Kucch Toh Hai (2003), which made no waves in the box office. His break came with Murder (2004), based on Hollywood’s hit Unfaithful. It starred Emraan Hashmi and Mallika Sherawat. The movie along with its soundtrack became a big success. He further added to his success by dishing out two superb films Gangster and Life in a metro.
Jagga Jaasoos, featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and Govinda in the lead is the filmmaker’s first movie after the much acclaimed movie, Barfi. Currently enjoying his stint as a judge on Zee TV’s reality show ‘Zee Cinestars Ki Khoj’, the director says he is going slow with his film career because he feels he has worked hard during his initial days. He now wants to focus more on his personal life.
‘Jagga Jasoos’, a sleuth drama, is expected to hit theaters in May next year. Ranbir is also producing the film with the director.
