MUMBAI: Former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee will reportedly star in a Bollywood film, which is to be shot in Sydney.
Lee, who is treated as a rock star in India, is in Mumbai with Prime Minister Tony Abbott and they are expected to make an announcement shortly when the Australian prime minister visits a local cricket club.
The former Australian pace express is a real crowd-pleaser in India and starred in the cricket-themed Bollywood film Victory, and famously sung a duet with the Queen of Bollywood, Asha Boshle.
A group of Australians of Indian origin have established the Australia India Film Fund (AIFF), which aims to produce India-centric Australian features and television projects, utilizing the Producers Offset.
The fund, headed by Sydney-based IT entrepreneur Devendra Gupta, is working towards making more movies of the likes of Bend it Like Beckham.
Apparently, the film also stars actress Tannishtha Chatterjee, who gained international acclaim in the celebrated feature Brick Lane. Word is, the feature film, titled ‘UnIndian’, will go into production in October.
Lee is now a Channel Nine cricket commentator. During his international career, he was recognized as one of the fastest bowlers in the world of cricket, clocking regularly 150 km/h and above. He ranks only behind Pakistani bowler Shoaib Akhtar (161.3 km/h, 100.2 mph) as the fastest bowler in contemporary cricket during most of the 2000s.
He continues to play T20 cricket in the IPL and Big Bash League. For the 6th season of Indian Premier League he did double duty for Kolkata Knight Riders, taking on the role of bowling mentor in addition to his playing role.
