BANGALORE: September has been a big month for tech geeks. After the launch of iPhone 6 series, Galaxy Note 4 and Moto X, now it is the turn of Microsoft to lay out something big before the end of the month.
Microsoft has sent invitations to media houses and tech analysts to join them on September 30th “to hear about what’s next for Windows and the enterprise”.
The American Bazaar had reported a few weeks back that Microsoft was ready with developer preview of its latest OS iteration, code named Windows 9 Threshold. Going by this, the September 30th event in San Francisco could be none other than the official announcement of the release of Windows 9 Threshold.
According to the invitation, the September 30th event will be handled by Windows executives Terry Myerson and Joe Belfiore. They are expected to demonstrate some of the key changes in Windows 9 and how Microsoft has addressed some of the issues of Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.
According to media reports, Microsoft will make the developer code available for software testers and businesses to understand the new platform before moving to the new OS.
The leaked screenshots of Windows 9 Threshold reveals the coming back of the most awaited Start menu along with some major changes in the User Interface. One of the major criticisms faced by Microsoft with Windows 8 was its over optimization for the touch platform. Even as they faced this criticism, many admired windows 8 for its smooth performance compared to Windows 7.
When it comes to Windows 9, Microsoft has done away with some of the celebrated features in Windows 8 like the Charm Bar. Some of the other features are the adaptations from rival operating systems like Mac OS X and Ubuntu.
For the first time, Windows OS will feature virtual desktop, allowing users to create multiple screens of the same desktop depending on the type of work and mood.
After the release of Windows 9 Threshold, tech enthusiasts can download the developer version in both 32 bit and 64 bit versions from the official Windows website. It is to be noted that the developer version could at times become unstable and might not work with all software programs. It is also unsure whether Microsoft will showcase all the features of Windows 9 in the preview version
