BANGALORE: The Indian smartphone manufacturer Lava has launched a new brand of smartphones named “Fuel”, an addition to its Iris series that focuses on the entry level market and first-time smartphone users.
Even though Lava has been in the business for quite some time, their smartphones are considered only next to Micromax and Karbon, and they are still groping to find a firm ground to build their market share in the country.
The launch of Iris Fuel 50, the first smartphone under the new brand name, is priced at Rs. 7,999. The phone has a 1.3 Ghz processor coupled with 1GB RAM, which has become a standard for a majority of entry level smartphone in India.
Lava boasts high about the battery capacity of Iris Fuel 50 citing that the 3000mAh battery of the phone can last for one-and-a-half days without troubling the users with low battery notifications.
The Iris Fuel 50 comes with Android KitKat out of the box. The company has not yet revealed whether the smartphone will receive latest Android OS updates over the air.
Coming to the camera department of the Iris Fuel 50, Lava, like many other smartphone manufacturers focusing on the entry level, has provided an 8 MP rear camera and a 2 MP front selfie camera. The 8 GB internal storage of the Iris Fuel 50 is expandable to 32 GB using a MicroSD card.
According to the official statement of Lava, the highlight of the Fuel brand of smartphones will be their long battery life.
LAVA International Chairman and Managing Director Hari Om Rai said, “Amidst the hardware progression that has happened ever since smartphone category was introduced, battery has remained a cause of concern with the users throughout. Smartphones are increasingly becoming a very integral part of our daily lives and drive a lot of tasks for us.”
In the Indian smartphone market, there is a lack of battery efficient smartphones in the entry segment. According to Lava, with the new Iris Fuel smartphones, people will not have to worry about the battery and they don’t necessarily have to carry a power bank with them for charging.
Rai added, “Our new Fuel series of smartphones will address just that. We shall soon come up with more products at different price points in this series.”
