BENGALURU: Even as the tech world speculates about possible designs and specifications of the yet to be launched premium smartphone of Samsung – Galaxy S6, a prototype of the same has arrived in India.
Samsung has not yet officially unveiled the next generation of Galaxy device globally, but as we know from the import data website Zauba, Samsung India has imported the prototype of the curved version of Galaxy S6 Edge to Bengaluru on January 3 from the company’s headquarters located in South Korea.
The import of Galaxy S6 to India doesn’t mean that Samsung, which is currently the bestselling smartphone brand in India, would sell the device in India. Instead, according to the description of the package delivered here, the import is merely for R/D purpose.
Samsung has priced the prototype device at Rs. 44,909 for the import purpose. There are reports circulating in the tech arena that Samsung will launch Galaxy S6 and a curved version of the same at CES 2015 in Las Vegas, before the end of this week.
Samsung hasn’t confirmed whether they will launch Galaxy S6 in CES 2015, but it is most likely that the South Korean manufacturer will showcase the device at least to its trade partners if not the customers.
As per the device specification listed in GSMArena, the new Galaxy S 6 will be powered by either an Exynos 7420 Quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A53 or Quad-core 1.9 GHz Cortex-A57 processor coupled with 3 GB RAM and Mali-T760 GPU.
The 5.5 inches smartphone will have a pixel ratio of 1440 x 2560 with a pixel density of 534 PPI. Samsung is said to have used the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 4 technology to protect the display of its latest device from scratches.
The Galaxy S6 is expected to feature a 20 MP rear camera with 4992 х 3744 pixels with additional features such as phase detection, autofocus and LED flash. The device will also have a 5 MP front camera for selfies.
Samsung, like its rival Apple, is planning to come out with three different versions of the Galaxy S6 with storage capacity of 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB, respectively.
Samsung was reportedly working on the Galaxy S6 project under the codename ‘Project Zero’ as the company plans to revamp the existing design of Galaxy S devices from scratch.
