Windows 10 to be unveiled on Jan. 21.

WASHINGTON, DC: With Windows 10, Microsoft intends to consolidate all three of its existing Windows platforms– 8, RT and Phone– into one solidified operating system and app store.
However, Windows accounts for only 2.7 percent of the current smartphone market, meaning Microsoft needs to glean a lot more consumer support if it wants to be considered a true player in the mobile market.
In order to solve their lack of mobile market share, Microsoft has been internally discussing whether to run Android apps on Windows phones.
The possible gains for Microsoft are clear, as customers will be able to migrate to a Windows powered smartphone without having to abandon their carefully curated collection of Android apps. The move would also beef up the Windows mobile ecosystem with a vast array of readymade, popular applications.
The deal would not be unprecedented — Blackberry previously took the leap of allowing cross-functionality in order to bolster its waning mobile presence, which allowed the platform to access over 1.3 million apps in the blink of an eye.
While Microsoft has always backed away from Android integration due to Windows Phone being a closed platform, the technology giant may we willing to compromise in order to compete with the likes of Apple and Google.
According to Android Authority, Microsoft’s recent move to open up its Office Mobile software and “unifying the code across other operating systems is being seen by some as a sign that the company is prepared to relinquish its reliance on its OS in favor of providing competitive services.”
Microsoft is also “under threat from Apple’s and Google’s moves into the enterprise space, so there’s a clear need to begin competing more aggressively against the big mobile players in software as well as the OS space.”
Microsoft is set to unveil Windows 10 on January 21 at a specialized event in Redmond, Washington.

They should just make two apps.. Windows Store and Android store. I’d visit both of them every day. I’ve got an online business I maintain every day, so having access to both stores would be ideal, my phones constantly on me in my very mobile life.
