BENGALURU: Samsung and rivals Apple have once again come face to face in the smartphone battlefield as the South Korean manufacturer today launched the much-awaited Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.
In the backdrop of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the CEO of Samsung J K Shin said, “These products are the result of a simple philosophy. It comes to two words: Relentless innovations.”
Samsung has touted the camera performance of Galaxy S6 as the fastest and the brightest one in the market.
As reported earlier by The American Bazaar, Galaxy S6 will feature a payment system similar to Apple’s Pay. But, Samsung said that its payment system Samsung Pay is much easier than Apple’s which require merchants to have NFC-enabled readers for decoding the signals. According to Samsung, its contact-less payment system will be compatible with 90% of all merchant payment counters.
According to reports, Samsung is in conversation with Visa and MasterCard regarding the payment system and is expected to release in the US and South Korea by the beginning of this summer. Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge is equipped with wireless charging. According to Samsung, 10 minutes of charging can give a battery backup for four hours.
Samsung boasts that the new device will be top notch when it comes to security, making it ideal for both business and government use.
Samsung’s plastic protector, which was the most understated part of the earlier Galaxy devices, has been replaced with Gorilla Glass.
The curved edge of the Galaxy S6 Edge is the only major difference in the newly launched devices. The new design of the Galaxy S6 Edge will help users to access the most important content on the curved edge.
The edge of the new Samsung device will glow depending on the color assigned to a person in the contact. This will help users identify the person who contacted even before reaching the phone. The devices will be available across 20 countries starting from April 10.
The devices feature a 2560 x 1440 Quad HD touchscreen display with a 16MP IMX240 camera sensor camera on the rear and a 5MP front camera.
Galaxy S6 devices are powered by Snapdragon 810 processor coupled with 3GB RAM. In addition to the snapdragon processor, the company is also used 64-Bit based Exynos 7420 chipset with octa-cores. The new Galaxy S6 smartphones run Android Lollipop out-of-the-box.
