WASHINGTON, DC: Think of Emraan Hashmi, and get smacked with images of kisses galore with lovely nubile maidens and hauntingly romantic songs, delivered soulfully, that have become a hallmark of his films.
It’s no different in his upcoming new film ‘Mr. X’, a sci-fi thriller directed by Vikram Bhatt, and produced by Mukesh Bhatt. The film revolves around the story of a man who confronts the power of invisibility. Mr. X will release in select US theaters on April 17.
The first video song released to promote the film, ‘Tu Jo Hain’, is composed and sung by Ankit Tiwari, who is becoming a quintessential factor in a Bollywood romantic film’s success, since his stunning work in ‘Aashiqui 2’, all the way through to ‘Alone’ with his beautifully rendered ‘Katra’ song.
The new song by Tiwari also unveils the stunning Amyra Dastur, who looks lovely in the song sequence, has the beauty to captivate many a heart instantly.
Hashmi is up to his usual antics, wooing a girl in the song, placing a ring around her in a crowded street – much to the delight of the character played by Dastur – and then having some intimate scenes with her in a closeted house setting, which culminates in a swim in a swimming pool attached to the house.
But here comes the twist, which is hatke from Bollywood standards: the intimate kissing scene between Dastur and Hashmi is done by an invisible Hashmi, shown as a robotic frame-like figure, and beneath the waters of the swimming pool. There are also scenes of Dastur getting disrobed by invisible hands, left only in her swimsuit.
The song itself, rendered in the characteristic Tiwari style, with a lot of feel and sentiment, is powerful enough to listen to a few times, falls flat at places though, and has the feel of being heard before, a few films backs perhaps. But what the song lacks, the visuals, and especially, Dastur, makes up for it.
