BENGALURU: Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra underwent endoscopy at Breach Candy Hospital in south Mumbai after he complained of abdominal pain.
According to hospital authorities, the 79-year-old actor, renowned and best known for his role in Bollywood blockbuster movie Sholay, was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday night.
After conducting preliminary tests on him, the doctors found the actor’s hemoglobin count lower than normal level. He underwent an endoscopic procedure to rule out complications of intestinal bleeding. He is currently under the supervision of gastrointestinal surgeon Dr. Sharad Shah who described his condition as “stable”.
Dr Sanjay Desai, an orthopaedic specialist at Breach Candy Hospital, was quoted by PTI, saying, “He is fine. There is nothing to worry. He is here for overall health check-up as well.” Desai added that Dharmendra will later undergo a battery of tests, including X-ray and MRI tests.
The family of Dharmendra, who is also a former Member of Parliament, said, in a statement, ”His haemoglobin was low and doctors suspected some bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract.”
If the actor is found fit after the MRI and X-ray tests, he would be discharged from the hospital in a day or two after bringing the haemoglobin count back to normal level.
