US President Barack Obama, who is on a summer vacation, will be reading a novel by Pulitzer-winning author Jhumpa Lahiri, The Lowland.
Obama, who currently holidaying with his family in Martha’s Vineyard island in Massachusetts, has chosen six books for his reading, according to a White House report.
The five other books are: ‘All That Is’ by James Salter, ‘All The Light We Cannot See’ by Anthony Doerr, ‘The Sixth Extinction’ by Elizabeth Kolbert, ‘Between The World and Me’ by Ta-Nehisi Coates and ‘Washington: A Life’ by Ron Chernow.
The US president recently bought a hardcover copy of The Lowland in an event. It was published in 2013 and was shortlisted for the 2013 Man Booker Prize.
Obama has appointed the Indian American writer as a member of the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities.
Lahiri’s Interpreter of Maladies published won the 2000 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.
