Microsoft did not taste much of a success with its Lumia series. Even its earlier Surface Tablets were not that popular. However, Surface Pro 3 turned out to be a beast, giving a much-needed boost to the company’s tablet market.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella seems have taken inspiration from Surface Pro 3 tablet, as he is getting ready to launch a smartphone of a similar kind.
A leaked image of the windows insider program titled “Juggernaught Alpha” appeared in WMPoweruser confirms that Microsoft is working on a premium range smartphone that is expected to be launched next year.
The leaked image of the new Surface Phone features a 5.5-inch Clearback AMOLED with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. The device is also rumoured to be powered by an Intel Atom X3 SoC Quad-core processor.
The upcoming device will have a 4GB RAM, a mighty 21 MP rear camera and an 8 MP front camera. It will be available in 64G and 128GB variants.
In terms of design, the Surface Phone is expected to have a unibody design made of Aluminium-magnesium material. In contrast, all Lumia smartphones come with a plastic body.
A stylus similar to the ones found in the Samsung Galaxy Note series and wireless charging feature are expected to be the highlights of the phone.
Meanwhile, Microsoft doesn’t want to completely do away with Lumia devices, at least not for now. The Lumia series devices are sold as the low and middle range phones, while the upcoming Surface will be a high-end phone.
Though the Surface smartphone may not surpass iPhone or Android biggies, it sure is expected to have its own popular space in the market. The latest Windows 10 Phone OS will surely make it special.
