The Taxi Drivers Medallion Association has endorsed Satnam Singh Parhar for New York City Council District 23 in the September 10th Democratic Primary. The association represents more than 6,000 medallion owners in New York City.
“I am honored to be endorsed by the Taxi Drivers Medallion Association,” Satnam Singh Parhar said, in a press release statement. “Medallion owners are a hard-working group of New Yorkers, and an important part of the community. If elected to the City Council I will do my best to make certain they receive the equal and fair treatment, and the respect that they deserve from the City of New York,” he added.
“It is a pleasure to support the candidacy of Satnam Singh Parhar for City Council,” said Taxi Drivers Medallion Association spokesperson Satwinder Singh. “Over the past several years medallion owners have been ignored by the city, while app drivers have been given increased benefits and rights. It is time that there was a level playing field for both medallion owners and app drivers, and we believe that Parhar will help bring the same level of fairness to both groups of drivers.”
Singh is looking to fill the seat in Council District 23 that was vacated when Mark Weprin left the Council to work for Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Last week, State Senator Anthony Avella (D-Queens) endorsed Parhar.
Parhar, a well-known community activist, successful businessman and philanthropist with a reputation for getting results, is running on a platform of economic development, support for small business, quality education, increased transportation alternatives, more senior centers, clean and safe streets, and a freeze on property taxes and water and sewer bills.
“I am proud to announce my endorsement of Satnam Singh Parhar for City Council in District 23,” Avella said, in a statement. “Over the years that I have known him, Parhar has a strong record of getting results. His commitment to serving all the constituents of District 23 makes him a fantastic advocate for this community.”
He added: “It is time this District elects a candidate who reflects its great diversity, who understands the issues it faces, and who will tirelessly fight to secure its fair share of city funding and services. Satnam Singh Parhar has demonstrated his value as a community advocate, and as a successful businessman. As a Council Member he will be a strong voice, and more than that he will get things done.”
City Council District 23, with some of the most diverse electorates in the city, has seen significant demographic change in recent years. Forty percent of the District is Asian, with the overwhelming majority South-Asian.

You got my vote, Satnam. Let’s restore fairness in NYC transportation. Let’s bring justice to thousands of our local small transportation businesses who are competing fairly AND offering their own apps. Good luck.
