A 55-year-old actor and acting coach was convicted Wednesday of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old student in the mountains of Santa Monica, Calif. in 2009.
Hollywood acting coach Cameron Thor, who was accused of sexually assaulting one of his young former protégés, has been found guilty of performing a lewd act on a minor and the special allegation of substantial sexual contact, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Thor was arrested on June 3, 2014 and originally faced 13 counts, including kidnapping and aggravated assault, for victimizing one of his students, Jordyn Ladell, when she was a 13-year-old eighth grader. All but one of the charges had been dropped by the District Attorney.
Ladell came forward last year and alleged Thor sexually assaulted her in his car during a drive in the Santa Monica Mountains.
After contacting the authorities, detectives from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, as well as the DA’s office, recruited Ladell to help them try and apprehend her tormentor. To do so, they enlisted Ladell’s help to record Thor in phone conversations and during a meeting the two had at a Starbucks in 2014, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
A tape of one of the recorded phone calls was played to jurors early on in the trial. In the 27-minute recording, Thor can be heard telling Ladell, then 18, that he wished to have sex with her, and that he was contemplating a separation from his wife and business partner, Alice Carter.
He faces up to eight years in state prison when he is sentenced on Oct. 9, reported to local news outlet KTLA.
Per Deadline Hollywood, In addition to coaching, Thor was also a working actor who appeared on the big screen in “Windtalkers,” “Jurassic Park,” “A Few Good Men,” and “Hook.” On television he acted in in “The Net” and “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” He had taught acting to teens and others in Studio City, Calif. via the Carter Thor Studio.
