For the third straight month, immigrants made substantial gains in terms of domestic job numbers while native-born Americans with employment decreased even further.
Per the recently released monthly Bureau of Labor Statistics data, “foreign-born” jobs numbers increased by 14,000, while those for “native-born” Americans plummeted by 262,000.
Over the past three months, the job numbers for native-born have dropped by nearly 1 million, according to the Washington Examiner, while jobs for immigrants grew 218,000 over the same period.
In a recent Pew study that projected Asians will become the largest immigrant population in the U.S> within 40 years, the institute also found that a sizable portion of U.S. residents oppose an increase in immigration within the country.
Forty-five percent of those surveyed said that the current immigration system makes American society better in the long-run, but 37 percent said it makes society worse.
Almost half (49 percent) want to see the level of immigration decreased, while only 15 percent want an increase; one-third answered that immigration should be kept at its present level
Also according to the report, Americans currently have a more positive outlook on Asian immigrants than Latinos, according to a survey Pew performed along with its population projections.
Nearly half of American adults, 47 percent, said immigrants from Asia have had a mostly positive effect on American society. Only 26 percent said the same about immigrants from Latin America, with 37 percent saying they thought the effects of Latin American immigration had been mostly negative.
Immigrants from the Middle East fared even worse, with a paltry 20 percent of Americans saying Middle Easterners’ effect on the country has been mostly positive, while 39 percent said their impact has been mostly negative.
