Dr. Bhushan Pandya, an Indian American doctor specializing in gastroenterology, was elected president of the Medical Society of Virginia late last month. He had previously served on the Medical Society’s board as the director and associate director for more than 10 years as a representative of the 5th district.
Pandya, who is the founder and president of the Danville Gastroenterology Center in Danville, was appointed president-elect was announced at the organization’s annual meeting in Chatilly, according to Work It, SoVa, a business journal focused on southern Virginia.
“I love what I’m doing and what I’ve always done,” Pandya told local ABC affiliate WSET. “My mother said as a physician you get to take care of the patients at the end of the day, most of them feel better and you feel better about yourself.”
In addition to his duties with the Medical Society, Pandya was appointed by Gov. Mark Warner and Gov. Tim Kaine to serve on the State Board of Health for eight years and recently finished his term as vice chair.
Locally, Pandya has served as the president of the Danville Pittsylvania Academy of Medicine and the Danville Regional Medical Center medical staff. He is also the regional director of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin.
Additionally, he has served as president of the alumni association of Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi, where he earned his medical degree before completing post-graduate training at the Jersey City Medical Center.
