Shahrukh Khan has come out in support of his fellow actor Aamir Khan over the ‘intolerance’ debate in the country, saying that one does not need to prove his patriotism.
Speaking to CNN-IBN, Shahrukh Khan asserted that Aamir Khan has been misquoted.
While asked about intolerance debate in the country after Aamir’s remark, the actor clearly stated that “You don’t have to prove your patriotism in any other way, except for thinking good for the country and doing good. You have to work for the benefit of the country. If I work for the country in the most kindest way in what I am good at, my country is going to benefit from that. But if I am corrupt, and regional about it, I will be harming my country.”
He added: “Twitter and social media is about free voice, people do take very radical steps, they get abusive. Even a generic statement can be turned into radical statements by people,” SRK said.
He also added that he has learnt a lesson from the Aamir Khan’s intolerance controversy.
“I’m relieved now that I should now talk only about what I know. I need not speak on any and every other topic on which someone feels that I should speak on because I have been around for 25 years,” the actor concluded.
Last week Aamir Khan had said that his wife Kiran Rao had expressed her concerns over “intolerance” in the country, and she debated leaving the country.
The remark has seen a raging debate in the country, on social media, by politicians, Bollywood celebrities and alike.
After facing severe criticism, Aamir Khan responded that neither he nor his wife Kiran Rao have any intention of leaving the country. The actor also stated that he is proud to be an Indian and stands by what he said.
