Hyderabad police arrested a young software professional for locking up and torturing his former girlfriend in his flat at Tolichowki for five days.
Syed Imad Hasan (30) hailing from Aligarh tortured a 24-year old woman from Karnataka physically and sexually for five days, and trying to force her to marry him, said reports.
Finally, she managed to message her friend on Facebook about her condition and the location of the house. The friend contacted her relatives, and subsequently the police was notified.
According to the police, the two were colleagues at Dell software at Gachibowli, Hyderabad. They became intimate while working there and decided to get married.
Later, the girl refused to marry him, saying that her parents would not allow an inter-religious marriage. This provoked Hasan and he started forcing and threatening her to marry him.
Hasan continued his harassment even when the girl went to Dubai as part of her job in September.
The Times of India quoted Deputy Superintendent of Police Kavita, saying, “Hasan used to force the survivor to video-chat with him every day. If she failed to do so, he used to blackmail her saying that he will meet her father directly and explain about their relationship.”
At one point Hasan threatened to expose some photos and videos of her in compromising position with him. Not being able to sustain his harassment, she started video-chatting with him.
Finally, with an intention to get out of the trouble, she decided to meet him personally during her visit to Hyderabad, for a US visa-related interview.
Hasan met her at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and took her to his flat and detained her for five days. He attacked her physically and assaulted her sexually to force her to convert to Islam in order to marry him.
“The culprit picked up the victim at the RGI Airport five days ago and took her to his flat and confined her there. He threatened to kill her by showing a knife, a can of petrol and a rope,” DSP Kavita added.
He threatened to kill her with a pistol too, showing a photo of a pistol in his mobile phone.
The woman, in order to get out of her situation, pretended to have changed her mind and managed to message her friend in Hyderabad about her condition and address of the flat.
On Sunday evening, when Hasan was out of the house, her friend met her at the flat. The friend then informed her brother in Karnataka. Her brother came to Hyderabad on Monday morning and approached the police along with her friend.
“The survivor’s friend then alerted her brother in Karnataka. Her brother came to Hyderabad on Monday morning. He along with the survivor’s friend approached us. We immediately dispatched a team and rescued her,” Hyderabad additional commissioner of police (crime) Swati Lakra said.
When the police reached the flat, Hasan said that he was alone in the house. The police then searched the house and found the girl in a bathroom tied to a chair with bruises on her face and body.
“Imad was taken into custody from his flat and the girl was rescued by the SHE team in very bad condition. She was admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Imad had beaten her, threatened to kill her. He harassed and physically abused her for the past five days. Based on the complaint, the accused was arrested under the Nirbhaya Act and was handed over to the Humayun Nagar police,” said the additional commissioner.
