The Ranchi police arrested a school teacher, her husband and their two minor children in connection with the murder of a 12-year-old schoolboy who had an affair with the teacher’s daughter.
Nazia Hussain of Sapphire International School along with her husband Arif Ansari, 16-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter were arrested on Wednesday. The body of the student Vinay Mahto was found near the teacher’s quarters on Friday, reported The Times of India.
According to the police, Mahto, studying in class 6th, was in a relationship with the teacher’s daughter that her son didn’t like. He invited Mahto to the house and assaulted him brutally and he and his mother together pushed him down from the first floor of the house after he went unconscious.
“The teacher and her family were upset about Vinay’s friendship with her 11-year-old daughter. The teacher’s son, a class 11 student of the same school, invited Vinay for a dinner with his sister and managed to lure him to his house on Thursday night. He told him that his mother would cook something special for them,” a police official said.
“The teacher’s son was continuously teased by his friends about the alleged affair his sister was having with Vinay. It led him to develop a strong hatred for Vinay. The entire family was pained with the relationship,” said Ranchi SSP Kuldeep Dwivedi.
Mahto managed to get out of the hostel as teachers and other staff was busy with the preparations for annual day celebrations.
“At 1.09am, Vinay came out of the hostel and went towards the teachers’ quarters (CCTV footage confirms the movement). He went straight to Nazia’s room where he sat on the dining table with her son. Over dinner, he asked him to break all relations with his sister, to which Vinay refused. An argument ensued and he suddenly covered Vinay’s mouth with one hand and punched him several times on his stomach. He pushed him to the wall and banged his head on the wall. Vinay collapsed due to the injuries,” SSP Dwivedi said.
Hearing the clash, Hussain and her daughter who were sleeping in the adjacent room, came to the room. They saw bleeding Mahto lying on the floor unconscious. In panic, they dragged the body to the corridor and threw it off their first-floor balcony.
Their footsteps and sound were recorded by a camera installed by the school authorities.
“The audio clip has the sound of door being opened followed by footsteps and then a big thud (the falling of the boy on the ground). Then the teacher and her daughter used wiper to clean possible blood stains in the corridor and then closed the door. The sound of the wiper has also been recorded in the camera. The camera could not capture image because it was dark,” said, ASP Hatia Prashant Anand.
“They tried to wash off blood stains with the help of wipers and some clothes. But they were not sure what to do with Vinay. They then dragged him through the corridor and pushed him over from the first floor. Around 1.38 a.m., a teacher, who lived on the ground floor, spotted the unconscious boy. The entire family remained awake the whole night,” said Dwivedi.
Police said the boy suffered head injuries inflicted by blunt objects and his liver too was damaged due to severe beating. The blood samples collected from the quarters have also matched with Mahto’s blood, reported The Indian Express.
Ranchi Police questioned seven school teachers, security guards and others in the case. Though the police tried to question the girl, she couldn’t say anything as she was in a state of shock.
A case has been registered under Sections 302 (murder), 201 (destruction of evidence) and 34 (furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code against the accused.
Meanwhile, the Jharkhand High Court on Wednesday issued a notice to police, school and state government and sought details in the case along with the post-mortem report, Ranchi Abhibhavak Sangh general secretary Ajay Rai, who moved the high court on behalf of the association.
