A 24-year-old woman employee of the online shopping website Snapdeal was abducted from Ghaziabad in the state of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday night when she was returning home from office.
Dipti Sarna, an engineer in the IT department of Snapdeal, is working at the Gurgaon office of the company. Her house is in Kavi Nagar area of Ghaziabad, which is eight kilometers from the Vaishali railway station.
She usually travels up to Vaishali station by Delhi Metro and then takes an auto-rickshaw to her house.
On Wednesday, she reached Vaishali railway station at around 8.30 in the night and took an auto-rickshaw, with three other passengers. Then she called her father Narendra Sharma and informed that she had taken an auto-rickshaw.
After travelling a few kilometers, two other passengers got down and the third passenger, who was a woman, was forcefully thrown out of the auto-rickshaw by the driver and he took a wrong turn.
Alarmed, Sarna raised her voice and she called her father and told him that she was being kidnapped. The call suddenly dropped and her mobile phone got switched off after that.
Her father immediately rushed to the police station and filed a complaint. The police have started an investigation and around 100 policemen are searching for her in the locality where she went missing.
Snapdeal expressed concern over her abduction and the company’s co-founder Kunal Bahl tweeted “Deeply disturbed by news of our @Snapdeal team member getting abducted yest. We are working closely w/ authorities to secure her safety.”
“We are extremely disturbed with the reported abduction of our team member. Her security and safety is our topmost priority. We are doing everything to support and work with the authorities in their investigation. The entire Snapdeal family is united in their support and prayer for her safe return,” a company spokesperson said.
Residents of Ghaziabad blocked traffic on national highway-24, on Thursday evening and staged a protest in front of the office of Senior Superintendent of Police.
Update
Dipti Sarna, who was abducted from the Vaishali Metro Station in Ghaziabad, managed to flee from her captors in Haryana’s Karnal town.
Her grandfather KN Sarna said that at 6.00 a.m. Deepti called-up her father Narendra Sarna from an unknown mobile number and told him that she had managed to flee from Karnal and had reached the New Delhi Railway station. She asked him to pick her up from the station.
While returning from Delhi, Ghaziabad police intercepted Narendra’s car and escorted them to the Vaishali police station for questioning.
Dipti has been found and reunited with her family. Will update with more details. Thank you for all your support and prayers. #HelpFindDipti

I request our CM and Gaziabad police to please try to make our city a safe place.
In this case like others,Kirti managed to escape by herself.
I don’t see any thing done by police, proactiveness is what we require.
I am sure the police is too worried about their image and safety.
But if they act strict none will dare to do any wrong thing.
