Dulquer Salmaan, the dashing young hero of Malayalam film industry, won the best actor award for his stunning performance in the movie ‘Charlie,’ while Parvathy got the best actress award for her performances in ‘Charlie’ and ‘Ennu Ninte Moideen’ at the Kerala State Film Awards 2015.
Charlie bagged eight awards, including the best director and best screenplay. ‘Ennu Ninte Moideen’ produced by Indian Americans Suresh Raj, Binoy Shankarath, and Ragy Thomas, received seven awards, including best popular film and best actress.

Salmaan leaped ahead of his father and well-known actor Mammootty in the final round of competition after the jury found his performance in ‘Charlie’ more versatile than his father’s character in the movie ‘Pathemari’, which tells the agonies of an Indian migrant worker in the Middle East.
“Dulquer’s stylized acting in Charlie was commendable. Parvathy enacted two different faces of love brilliantly in Charlie and Ennu Ninte Moideen,” said Jury Chairman and veteran director Mohan.
“Today was probably the happiest day of my life. First and foremost thanks to all the viewers and everyone who have been supporting and encouraging me from the beginning of my career. Thanks to the jury for encouraging us youngsters. And more than anyone, thanks to all the brilliant actors in our industry who have done such superb films and given such phenomenal performances that continue to inspire me to work harder. Last but certainly not the least – Team Charlie !!,” Salmaan wrote on his Facebook post.
The movie ‘Charlie’ revolves around the incidents that unfold in the life of a youngster who leads a Sufi lifestyle, but shares an emotional bondage with the people who he meets in the course of his journey. ‘Charlie’ was the last movie of national award winning actress Kalpana, who passed away recently.
Director Sanalkumar Sasidharan’s ‘Ozhivu Divasathe Kali’ was adjudged the Best Film and the Best Director award went to Martin Prakkat for Charlie.
