In a shocking incident in Chataparru village of Andra Pradesh, a 19-year-old girl was burnt to death by a rejected lover and his friends.
According to police, the brutal act happened in the Chataparru village of Eluru Mandal in West Godavari district.
They added that the accused have been identified as Pedababu and Vicky.
Pedababu poured kerosene on the 19-year-old Indumati who was alone in her house and set her on fire. The doctors confirmed that the girl sustained 90% of burns and succumbed to her burns while in treatment at a hospital in Eluru town.
A senior police officer, who reached the hospital moments after the girl got admitted said that he has recorded the statement of the girl before she succumbed.
According to the girl, Vicky a youth living in the same village has been harassing her after she rejected his proposal. Vicky along with his few friends came to the girls house and picked up a fight with her parents following which the girl’s family lodged a complaint with the police who gave a strong warning to the youth.
The elders from both sides were scheduled to meet on Sunday to sort out the issue but on Saturday the youth along with his friend burnt alive the girl.
Vicky and his friend have been charged under Nirbhaya Act and a hunt for the suspects is on.
Peethala Sujatha, Women Empowerment Minister, spoke to district Superintendent of Police Bhaskar Bhushan and asked him to conduct a thorough investigation.
