A 25-year-old woman from Manipur was arrested with her three friends on Sunday, for fighting back after a group of men allegedly harassed her.
According to a Hindustan Times report, the incident took place in Kalina area of Mumbai, when the victim was returning from a birthday party at a friend’s place.
Police said she was arrested as she threw a stone at one of her attackers as a result of which he started bleeding from a wound to his head.
The woman and a friend were waiting for an autorickshaw when three men started to abuse and calling them “Nepali. When they protested, accused slapped the women and assaulted her friends.
“The charge of molestation was added to the complaint because the woman was slapped. The woman has been booked because she threw a stone at one of the accused, who started to bleed. I will have to check if the accused used words like “Nepali”. It is possible the accused are uneducated and do not know it is an offence”, said the Senior Police inspector of Vakola Station Mahadev Wavale.
Sudharshan Gaikwad, 46 and Deepak Gandhala 25 , two of the alleged molesters, were arrested so was the women and her three friends.
The two attackers have been remanded in police custody for two days. But the four from Manipur were not granted cash bail as they do not have a permanent address.
